High price point, low quality

This microwave completely died today after only four years of gentle use. For this price point, the quality is atrocious. The only solace I have is realizing I'm not alone after reading these other comments.

I've had this microwave less than 3 years. Recently it stopped working so I had the authorized repair service come take a look at it. The door switch had already failed, but I chalked it up to bad luck. Now the microwave won't even power on. I can't afford to have somebody repair the microwave every few months/weeks. I've never had a microwave break so quickly, and this one broke twice.

This is a very expensive microwave that only lasted three years. For the price I would expect the quality to be better that what it is. I bought all new Cafe appliances for my kitchen remodel in 2022 and had issues with a dishwasher and microwave. The microwave started off with the turntable continue to rotate when i hit cancel and then after a few months just stopped working completely. The turntable will not spin and the food will not heat. Totally disappointed in Cafe and will never purchase a GE Appliance again.

This CAFE MW is poorly designed with a push button. I see that GE has since discontinued this model. Probably for reasons of the poorly engineered push button. After one year something should not happen like this and GE should offer to fix or repair.

The microwave breaks so often, I have started to keep spare parts and fix it on my own because we can't afford to replace it. Right after the warranty went out, the door switches started going bad. We replace one every six months now.
Do not buy. I wish I had never decided to buy GE.

The face of my microwave just peeled off after about two years. This is obviously a poor design and even worse workmanship. Happy to provide pictures to anyone that would like to see. This coming off having to replace the same age dishwasher after $500 in wasted repairs.

This is the worst appliance I've ever owned. We bought all new GE/Cafe Appliances in late 2022 when we bought our home. This microwave first died on us within just outside of a year of purchase. I spent $400 to get it fixed then, and now it has died on us again. Spending anymore on it would put me over my purchase price. Imagine a supposedly "high end", luxury appliance not even lasting 3 years!!! Absolute thrash. Buy Cafe appliances at your own peril.

I have owned many homes and microwaves throughout my life. I have never had one as expensive as this one at almost $1,000. I have also never had one fail at 2 years. The repair costs for labor, service call, and the part for a heating element is half the price of the microwave. For a product that is supposed to be superior, it has proven to be the worst investment.

This microwave does everything, but not easy to use. Long learning curve and so far have not tried all features. Microwave power is lower than our old one and so have to heat 2-3 times longer, it not a real problem.

Like some other reviews here, this expensive microwave purchase was a mistake. The turning plate started turning constantly, then stopped altogether. When the plate stopped turning the microwave would not work. Opening and closing the door repeatedly sometimes gets the microwave to work, but that certainly is not practical. Searching for help on the website is also difficult, but the search seems to have. Made me a target for multiple emails now. Overall would not recommend for such an expensive microwave.

This product is disappointing and not what I expected from a premium line. The microwave was new with our home which we moved into about 16 months ago. The microwave door button has already failed! This product is clearly cheap and I™™m surprised that for the price and the quality this brand is trying to promote the product is more a disposable appliance.

This appliance was purchased less than 4 years ago and now the microwave and turntable are inoperable. This was a complete waste of money. All we really wanted was a microwave oven and the salesman talked us into this as a convection oven back up. We maybe used it for that 3 times in the last 3.5 years. Planned obsolescence I guess. I would not recommend this product to anyone!

Quality is really bad. This microwave did not even last us for 2 years. It's been a little over a year and the microwave stopped working. First the turntable would not stop turning even when microwave was not in use, and shortly after it stopped heating. Not worth the 1k that we spent on it, find a cheaper one else where which will atleast last a few years.

This is an average product. It breaks on an annual basis just about. Right now, it™™s broke. The plate is not turning. Before that it wouldn™™t come on which happened at least three times. I think it has something to do with the fuse or something. I™™ve only had it installed brand new for 5 years.

Unbelievable that GE would sell a $700+ microwave that breaks down in such a short amount of time. Had this installed and in use for 13 months and the according to 2 different people we had look at it, the magnetron went out and fried the mother board. Replacing the parts will cost $900 + labor so just need to buy a new one.

Disappointed at this almost $1,000 microwave. We have gone through 2 of them in less than 4 years. We decided to go for a second one because our cabinets were built to fit this specific microwave. Unfortunately, the second one barely made it to the one year mark even though we don™™t really use it.

Lasted a year and a half. Made it just past the warranty and the entire control board is fried. It was $100 to get someone to come look at it, it'll be another $350 to get it installed. $400 on a $1,000 year and a half old microwave that was warrantied for 1 year. Last GE or HAIER product I will EVER buy.

Manufacture date of 7/21, purchased early ™22. Has been working fine, though ™bake™ feature was never great. However, a horrible chemical smell coming from the unit the past few days (both when in use and not) and fear it is about to die as has happened with so many others. Wary of a $125 service visit that may end up costing way more or not be able to fix the unit at all.

Lasted 3 years under normal use . Magatron failed and damaged the wave guide. Magatron is covered under a 5 year warranty but once the wave guide is damage , you have to throw the entire unit away . Ge service person diagnosed the problem . I have a case out with GE, they reviewed the case , offered discounts on a new one. I was told after 4 phone calls with the person in charge of the case that they would email a link for the discount . I™™m just tired of fighting. I™™m moving on. I have a Cafe frig, stove and dishwasher . Will avoid GE products from here on out . Not worth the money !

Stopped Working After 3 Years This review is so similar to the others!!! We renovated our kitchen in 2021 and selected the Cafà line for ALL of our kitchen appliances. The dishwasher has been repaired and now the microwave has failed. The microwave still appeared to operate in that you could hit the Start button and the interior lights would come on and you could hear a blower/fan as you normally would, but the turntable was no longer rotating and the food remained cold!!!! Everything looks like it works, but it doesn™™t. What a disappointment for a microwave that you spent more than $1000 on!!!

I have The exact same experience as Matt We. This was installed in our brand new home that we bought in 2020 and the last few weeks the plate would be spinning when the door was open and then it just died. It won™™t heat or spin at all now. We™™ve been looking at troubleshooting it and not replacing, but for $950 it™™s not worth it! This much money and it only lasted 4 years is unacceptable, especially after having to replace our cafe dishwasher already earlier this year when it died too.

Only 2 Years Old and Power Failure Issues, paid $682 then and now cost over $800! Thank god for paying extended warranty only to get my money returned for cost two years to pay the inflation price today and rebuy insurance again. Looking at your past reviews GE Cafe may want to consider a nationwide issue with this product! Let™™s see if I™™ll have to consider buying another rental fees reimbursement for the same microwave in 2 years again.

wow. what a piece of garbage. five years ago we were tricked into buying this $800 hunk of metal, simply because it matched our other appliances AND because there was a rebate for buying 3 or more GE items (we were ASSURED by the seller that it qualified for the promotion). shortly afterwards, we were told that it does NOT qualify, and the best they could do was give us an extended warranty on it. i told them they lied to us and that i no longer wanted the microwave. the very responsive salesperson suddenly stopped responding at all and i couldn't be bothered to make a big stink over it.
fast forward just about 5 years and the microwave started acting up. at first, the turntable continued to spin after opening the door...which i thought was odd. a few weeks later and the turntable no longer moves at all during cooking... and there's no heat! guess that extended warranty will get used after all.
BUT....i just reached out to the appliance store and was informed that the extended service warranty offered was only for the refrigerator! the microwave (that i never wanted) is sadly not covered. of course.
so, now i'm off to a less "COSTly" big box store to buy a $150 unit that will likely outlive me, and if it doesn't i can return it any time. never getting scammed by an extremely overpriced GE microwave again.
STAY FAR AWAY.

This is our second microwave. The first one only lasted 1.5 years. I had a horrible time getting customer service to agree to replace it. They finally agreed to pay 1/2 of the replacement microwave. The replacement has already had to be repaired 2 times to the cost of $500. Now it is not working again. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GE PRODUCT AGAIN

Not any better quality than the cheap stuff for alot more money. Matches our other Cafe appliances and features were great, but the microwave died in under 5 years! I've had $100 microwaves last 20 years and this one died in under 5 years and cost over $1000. NOT WORTH THE 10X MARKUP!!
