Do not buy this product.

Chood 8/27/2026

Do not buy this product. It fails on a regular basis. Just decides it will not retract, or rise. And once it's decided, there's nothing, apart from calling the engineers out at vast expense, that you can do. Awful.

Prefer the previous model

Moebyers 2/1/2026

Well....it was slightly wider and deeper than our previous KitchenAid retractable exhaust fan so it was not a simple installation. Our granite counter top had to be cut wider and deeper to allow the new model enough room to fit the opening. Also, the on/off push button is finicky. Sometimes the unit starts by pushing and holding the on button other times you just push the on button. Needless to say we are not fans of the new on/off button. It is also noisy when it is elevated creaking and such as it moves from. The retracted position. The blower does seem to work fine although noisy. Lastly, it was a huge pain and challenge to connect the blower to the existing vent pipe as again this new unit was considerably different than the layout of the KitchenAid unit it replaced. Significant modifications were required for our application

Could not install due to motor box location

Really42 1/21/2026

The motor box location is very low, and if your vent exit is in the floor you may not be able to install it as the gap between the floor and the base of the box is too small. There may be no room even to a flexible flex pipe.

Replacement to existing KitchenAid Downdraft Fan

PaulW51 12/26/2025

Happy with the purchase based on it being an exact fit to the existing KitchenAid unit. We are dissapointed in that the unit physically lacks the quality of our existing unit. Etched Name instead of Raised Metal Label / Trimmings are lower quality / Fan is louder/ Long delivery time. It fits, it works, does not have the quality "look" of the original.

Sbk7 8/18/2025

This was just installed on Friday August 15, 2025. Removed the filters to clean some packing adhesive & excess grease off and noticed the shattered mirrored surface. When the downdraft is raised it makes a grinding sound and is wobbly.

Worked for maybe a year or so but now it won't stay in the up position.I had an appliance mechanic on and after several hours, he can't fix it. It'll have to go in the trash because I'm not throwing any more money away trying to fix it. Piece of junk.

New and Improved!

K&K2 1/26/2024

The motor in the Old downdraft ventilation system failed which necessitated the replacement unit since the mtor for the old unit was no longer produced/avalable. New unit fit into dimensions of the countertop exactly Motor and fan unit was a little larger than the old unit, which took a little more space in the cabinet. However, the unit sticks up a little taller when activated and the fan is much stronger, so the end result is very positive!!

I would have be giving it a 0 but the rating doesn™€™t exists. I never received my vent after order has been placed a 1 1/2 month ago and the delivery got rescheduled 4 times and after being assured it will be first priority, the delivery was cancelled again 2 hours before it was supposed to arrive. I am left speechless and even more shocking receiving the survey asking me to comment. What would anyone in my place can say?

The vent is not made as well as one would expect from KitchenAid. The plastic button to retract and raise the vent is cheap and gets stuck. Very flimsy. Causing the vent to go up and down until you straighten out the button.

go a different route

toobad 8/24/2023

My downdraft unit failed after 6+ years only to find out that is was faulty manufacturing from the beginning. The repair person could not fix "unrepairable". AND I am not able to get free installation like MANY of their other appliances. They won't even give me an added discount to help cover the cost of getting the downdraft installed. If I could, I would NOT get this product again and most likely not another kitchenAid product. KitchenAid does not stand by their products.

Poor instructions and difficult installation

Al GR 8/16/2023

I bought this item for a center island. The unit is so large that it makes it difficult to install and connect to the current vents. The installation manual was very poor. It required some ingenuity to make the connections. After a full day, we did install the unit. It looks good, operates as advertised, but knowing the installation issues, I would look for something simpler

retractable downdraft kitchen ventilator

man on fire 1/13/2023

This was a replacement for a 2008 unit (same Mfg, size, etc.) for which replacement parts were unavailable. While it works just fine and looks great, it would not fit into the existing space - I had to have my cabinets and drawers modified to the tune of $500 to accommodate the differences. That was quite disappointing, plus delayed the installation until I could get the cabinet work done (as well as reduced the drawer space available - they had to be shortened about 12".

Beautiful, but unfortunately came damaged!

Nicole12 8/17/2022

Unfortunately, it came damaged, but not until installing did we realize the stainless cover for the top was damaged and does not sit flat in place. Half of it is perfect and the other half sits 1/2" higher, which is very noticeable. The clip it's suppose to sit in place with was damaged and does not sit flush like the other two. In addition, KitchenAid does not install these and it was impossible to find professionals to install and now it's in and we have a cover that does not sit flat on the counter all the way across the downdraft. I connected KitchenAid last week and have yet to hear back.

SO DISAPPOINTED WITH KITCHEN AID! I Purchased a 36" Retractable Downdraft Ventilation System from KA in 2018 FOR $1200. I've spent close to $1000 to fix this machine. I have a repairman here replacing 3 parts in the downdraft today. I sent KA all my repair receipts as evidence and asked if they would at least send me the parts free of charge and they said NO. Terrible customer service, terrible company. BEWARE!

Rather deceptive specifications

C&D White 3/3/2022

My wife really wanted this so we reviewed and as the overview states that it "has the power to provide effective venting for most cooktops or ranges" And "The system is reversible to help fit it in the cabinet space under the vent" Well, the blower fan is indeed removable and may be able to be installed on the other side, or in a different room, (instructions are fuzzy on "exterior blower" instillation) there is still a large plastic covered box that sticks out almost 5" to prevent the "front" of the unit from being close enough to the range to actually pull out smoke and odors. It seems this is *only* for a cook top, be warned. This is not for a range, or a stove. It is *only* for a cook top.

Had the old model that they do not support anymore

Lofty 1/4/2022

We remodeled our kitchen 2009 and installed the 36" model (kirD861VSS) and it never operated quite right. Many times we would deploy the vent and then would need to go downstairs and flip the breaker so it would stop the exhaust fan and go down. We had repair men from Ferguson's come out but the think would operate properly for them. 2 years ago the vent deployed but would not go on and would not go down. We had a different repair man come out and said we needed a new circuit board but KA no longer supported this model. For the past 2 years I have been trying to get a replacement through many means but have been unsuccessful. I was just very disappointed they quit supporting this version as it will take some destruction that I cannot afford at this time. Let me know if anyone knows where I can find a replacement board. I have been working with Faber (manufacturer's name on PCB) but they are having supply chain issues.

It looks just like it is part of the new cooktop, and I get a lot of comments on it makes the kitchen seem so "high tech" when I raise it. :) Great solution for a downdraft instead cooktop built in ones that seem to only work with pans. The added height makes it easier to exahaust steam from pots when cooking.
