We're able to decrease our trash output to one bag per week and pay less for trash service now. Machine is quiet for a compactor and is quite attractive. The only minor downfall is the door makes a muted clunk when it closes. I would assume it's part of the design to keep it tightly closed.

I bought this two months ago and have been generally pleased with it. It compacts trash better than our previous GE model, is very easy to open and close, and load and unload compactor bags.That said, the model is not as quiet as I thought it was touted - about as loud as the kitchen disposal for the short period it runs. Also, the charcoal fan seemed to be pretty unnecessary - at least we don't have enough stinky garbage to warrant the fan purring constants in the background.Overall, it's mechanically sound. It compacts trash well, operates simply, and is solidly built so it seems like it will hold up for years to come. It is a bit pricey and a little louder than I thought but it's not that bad. I'd buy it again compared to what's out there. I'd prefer they make a less expensive version without the charcoal filter.

We wanted a quiet compactor, as our kitchen is open to our family room. This unit is extremely quiet. It does an excellent job of compacting. The extra pack feature works extremely well, and allows you to compact a large amount of trash into a brick. There is also a air filter option, but we haven't had a need to use it. My only suggestion for improvement would be the appearance of the handle. It's big and bulky and I wish it were less substantial. Fortunately, it's in an area where it's not highly visible.

I installed this compactor myself. Installation took about 1 hour. Instructions were easy to follow and all went well. I'm very happy with performance. The unit is quiet, has a fan if there are odors from material compacted that vents them into a filter--eliminating any odors--and controls are intuitive. I think it is really nice looking--I'm gradually converting a hodgepodge of different appliances (white, stainless, black) into all-black) and this appliance is kind of "understated cool".

I was pleasantly surprised by how good this is. Our old compactor from 1983 was built like a tank, and just went out after 33 years. I thought the replacement would never compare after reading reviews of the current ones available (not Maytag, just all compactors), but this is better than the old one!

Hasn't changed much over the years so very simple to use. We do not have trash pick up in our community so having a compactor means less bags to take to the dump. I would recommend to anyone looking for a compactor.

I have waited too long to buy and have this installed. It works just GREAT. With TWO compacting pressures even big empty Ice Tea bottles are easily compressed. I am disabled. It saves me trips to the Dumpster.

We had the trash compactor installed 1+ months ago, it jammed repeatedly and froze (the repair man has been to the house 3 times) but now (for the past 10 days) seems to be working. When it works it is fine, but we have been one step from returning it and seeking a refund.

We have owned Maytag TCs for about 15 years. We had one in a condo in CA we sold. And now bought this one to replace the one we bought 6 years ago that stopped compressing and we couldn't get repaired at a reasonable cost compared to buying a new one. This is definitely the least well made of the three. The container came warped and the technician had to literally bend it back into place. The old canister was made like a steel trap. This one is made like a tin can. We'll see how long it lasts but for now I don't have real high hopes and will likely have to keep it under an extended warranty. But for what it's worth Maytag was willing to send the Tech out at no cost to check out my concerns. It only took getting to a supervisor at customer service.

bought this one month ago and installed it our new house. We have had trash compactors in our prior homes, from a Jenair to kitchen aid. And this unit is very well built and very quite when operating. As with any appliance purchase we hope this will last for many years to come. I went with Maytag this purchase because of the reviews I read in comparing different compactors. This one had the best reviews and least problems.

15" Undercounted Trash Compactor by Maytag

I bought this product two weeks ago. The appearance is good, the unit has good compaction, etc. The controls are easy to use. It currently has one big issue and keep in mind I have not called Whirlpool service. That issue is that the right track that carries the trash holder in and out of the compactor is not level. This results in a large bang each time you close the trash holder. If you pull up on the handle to the right, it closes correctly. I expect that issue to be resolved as soon as I contact service

My 37 year old Kitchaide 18" Trash Compactor finally gave out. The 15" May tag Trash Compactor is twice as Fast, opens easier and compacts 3 garbage contents into one. Better controls including Charcoal Filter + and ram can stay down to compact even more.

i am a paraplegic so using a toe kick is out of the question; however, having compacted trash makes hauling it outside much easier. This Maytag is the only compactor that offers two ways to open. You can pull up on the handle or use the toe kick. Problem solved!!

I bought this a month ago and I am totally disappointed with this product and the response I received from customer serviceThe compactor did not compress the trash more than 20% and the drawer was very loose. On my 18 year old compactor, you could hear the motor "labor" as it compacted the trash.This unit sounded like it never made contact before reversing. The repairman claimed the unit worked to spec. Customer serv. refused to replace or sent another tech. I had to return the unit to the store myself.This is 1 of 3 MAYTAG appliances I bought in the passed month.

If you've never lived with a compactor in the house then you don't know what you're missing, I suppose. We had one in a rental house many years ago and decided we were definitely finding space for one in the home we bought. We did but we recently replaced the first one with this Maytag because it had the "step to open" feature. Our other one didn't and that was a mistake. Having your hands full of whatever needs to go in the garbage and trying to open a door is nasty. If I had a complaint about this compactor it's that I haven't quite figured out the best way to step on the bar to open it. I don't know if it's because my foot is sort of small or if just having a pedal instead of the bar would have been a better way for Matytag to go. I can't seem to hit the bar very well with my foot on the floor so I end up sidestepping on the bar to open the door. It works.I don't think you'll have much luck using a regular garbage bag in this. We tried and the compacting action ripped it up. So I suppose that's another negative. My partner made the mistake of ordering some very expensive bags online to fit it, but I bought a package of "compactor bags" at the mega-big-box store and they seem to be working just fine.....$8 vs $60. So I'm okay with that.This unit also has a fan. I guess for venting odor? We haven't used it, no need. But I'm wondering since it isn't vented to the outside, why I would want smelly garbage smell blown around in my house. The charcoal filter must work better than I'm giving it credit for. As I said we've not had the need to use it.It's also quiet during the compacting process - especially compared to the old one we had. And it has a larger capacity so fitting a week's worth of garbage in there is no problem for us. We're a household of two so it's rarely an issue but if you've got a kid or two you might need the extra room. The less expensive bags were 20 gallon capacity and they fit well.

Our old trash compactor which lasted 21 years died with a great grown. We replaced it with a Whirlpool which was a piece of junk. It got stuck the first time we used it with trash up to where it would compact. Plus it was real jumpy when we would close it. And the push button was hard to push.So we took it back and got the Maytag. The Maytag works much better than the Whirlpool. The only thing I would say could be improved is the step on the bottom could stick out further. It is kind of hard to push it down to open it since it doesn't stick out too far.

Our last compactor was 20 years old and had to go because the HANDLE broke. The rest of it worked fine. There was no feasible way to repair or replace the handle as it was built in to the front of the drawer. Repairs were obvious and unattractive. So, in researching new compactors, we sought the one that we believed to have the strongest handle and easiest to repair or replace in the event of a problem. The Maytag was the clear winner. The handle is a stainless steel tube that is set into two sturdy steel brackets that fasten to the door and are not part of the door. It is strong, unlikely to fail in the future and easily repaired or replaced even if something were to happen to it. The rest of the features are nice -- it compacts trash. It has a safety key to disable it if you have small children. It has a fan and filter system. To us though, the handle system makes this unit superior to its competitors.
