Loved Microwave until F9 message appeared

DJTT 8/4/2019

I have been very happy with thei microwave until the key pad stopped working and I receive F9.Q communication message on the screen. I have to unplug and reset it several times a day now which I think indicates it will soon stop all together. Other reviewers have written that parts are no longer available or the cost would be more than a new microwave. Whirlpool, please help!

Receiving the same touch pad error F9.Q as everyone else. Cut the power and it just eventually comes back. Contacted customer service and even though this is obviously a common error they just push you to pay someone to come over. Will go out of my way to not buy Whirlpool for the next one.

Constant F9 Communications Error

DACross8 2/8/2019

Worked great for some time and recently just like everyone else posting here we've getting getting the keypad error. Obviously it's a known issue as everyone is posting the same issue. Whirlpool, please advise. I'm about to go with another brand, but figured I'd give you guys a shot to address the issue first as I really love this unit, but the constant resetting of breakers to get it to stop trying to operate on it's own is annoying.

Experiencing Keypad Issues and "F9 Error"

Jim,Emir,Tampa Wilayah 1/15/2019

Experiencing keypad issues and "F9 Communication Error". The Whirlpool microwave came with our house that we purchased new in 2009, so it's worked great for over 9 years. But like most of the reviews that have been posted for this model, it craps out at the 9-10 year mark. I've checked what the replacement parts cost for the three electronic components I suspect and they are $122, $207, and $215 apiece. $550 total or pay about at least the same for a repair tech to come out and see if it's (maybe) repairable. Looks like we're getting a new microwave unless Whirlpool can help us out.

Not Happy

eharbs 6/10/2018

We bought this with the thought that having a convection oven along with a microwave would be a good 2 in one idea. The cost was more than we wanted to spend but we did so anyway. It looks very nice and I really thought it would be a good investment being a Whirlpool product and in all. Well we never use the convection oven takes very long to preheat and the fan noise is very loud. And we too have a ghost in our microwave where it starts to beep and the panel will not work it will flash on and off and has a mind of it own. We need to unplug it in fear of starting on it own. We also have to unplug it to maybe reboot the panel so we can use it. We get the "test modes" that ask us to run thru to see what buttons work or don't work. Very frustrating. Now when we unplug it and plug it back in it does not work to push to buttons to run. I'm thinking it needs a new control panel. I to would like to get it fixed but I'm sure the panel is very expensive. With the microwave being built in and having to replace it saddens me because it looks very nice in my kitchen with other appliances. When I spoke with the place I purchased it the salesmen mentioned that this appliance has had a lot of issues and Whirlpool knows this. After reading some of the previous reviews, I thought it was time to write one myself.

Not a durable product

ScottH 3/4/2018

Had this installed when our house was built. It has the same 'ghost' issues as mentioned in other reviews. Control will randomly change on its own whether your using it or not. We make sure to unplug it when leaving for more than a day because we worry it will turn on by itself and keep running. Have had it repaired once and is not heating again. For the price...I would by a different one and have enough money left to buy a second one for less than this model. Does look good, but definitely form over function!

Excellent except ONE MAJOR problem

jw08205 11/26/2017

This microwave came with the house when I bought it. Up until now, it has done an amazing job with just about everything I need to do. For some reason, which I still can not figure out why NOR has Whirlpool assistance been able to help me in the least bit, there is a T9 communications error.... I am constantly unplugging and pugging it back in. The touch screen lights flash on and off... Anyone know what is wrong here!! Need answers, preferably from someone from Whirlpool.....

Love mine. Installed on kitchen remodel.

KatMac21 11/12/2017

I have had this microwave for many years now. The only thing I don't like is that moisture sometimes gets inside the door, in between the glass when I am cooking on the cook top. It is my fault because I am not paying attention as I should and should turn up the power of the exhaust. The exhaust fan is very powerful and is pretty loud on high. The noise is worth the power. The light for the stove top is bright and has several levels of brightness. These things have worked flawlessly. I don't have any problems with the controls. I have grilled with it and the food turned out very good. I have also used the steam "dish" that comes with it and it works great. I have not used the convection really, but should really try out all it capabilities. I love that it is so big inside. The microwave is powerful. It is great for defrosting meat and does an excellent job of thawing chicken and ground beef without it burning the edges. Great with popcorn too although one time it burned the popcorn. Hate that smell. Boiled vinegar and water in it to help and it did. I am not sure they make these any more, but I would buy another one if for some reason we moved. I would not want to do without it or my induction cook top. I love them both.

Literally Fell apart

9/13/2017

The microwave came with the house. I've had to replace the handle on it 3 times. This last time, the plastic bits started shattering, breaking, flaking, and crumbling. I've decided to replace the microwave entirely. it's not worth it. total pile of garbage.

saddled with it by previous home owners

2/17/2017

While this microwave has many great features, the design is flawed and these issues overwhelm the benefits. Mounting a touch screen design over a cooktop is a recipe for disaster. Half the time the buttons don't work and the othe the microwave keeps trying to self start a defrost cycle. Or it randomly adds time to an ongoing timer. So we have to keep it locked constantly, which defeats the convenience of any of the built in short cuts. We totally understand now why the previous owners wanted nothing to do with it.

Worst Engineered prodcut ever

aksalsero 1/2/2017

If I could give it negative stars I would.I've had nothing but issue's with this piece of junk since day 1. Worst design ever, as others have stated, it over heats and gets a mind of it's own. I spend more time unplugging it. The engineers behind this product should all be fired.Do not waste your money on this piece of junk!

Buyer Beware!!!

9/4/2016

Do not buy this microwave! It is a piece of junk. This unit was installed in our brand new home. Since day one the microwave beeps and scrolls through options as if possessed. We call Whirlpool, they told us to turn on the fan when ever we cook. Now the handle broke. It is the biggest piece of poltergeist junk ever! Don't waste your money and Whirlpool doesn't even step in when it is brand new!

Negative stars - expensive piece of junk

8/25/2016

We've had this unit since 2008, and it has been breaking down steadily over time. First off, we liked that this was a dual oven microwave/convection. When we use the convection feature, however, it not only takes longer than our standard oven to cook, it heats up all of the cabinets around it, so that we can't store oil or spices in the adjacent cabinets. Therefore, the convection feature is never used.... Next, the handle breaks. We paid $100+ to have the handle replaced the first time, which broke again shortly after, so we've lived with a broken handle. Third, there is a ghost in this microwave. The electronics have a mind of their own and start beeping and changing whenever they feel like it. We've even had it turn itself on once while empty. So, we unplug it whenever it is not in use. If it is plugged in while cooking on the stove, the steam from cooking will cause the electronics to go haywire, again... Finally, bottom of the door is made of plastic which cracks and falls apart. We noticed the cracks about a year ago as pieces of the door started to fall onto the stove whenever it was opened, so we duct taped the bottom of the unit to continue using it and keep the plastic from falling into our food. Now, the cracks have continued as the glass door is too heavy for the plastic and duct tape. The plastic is breaking further each time the door is opened. This is rendering the unit useless. We've held on to it as long as we can, and have tried to prolong it's life with duct tape, but it looks terrible and is near the end of it's days. For what we paid for this unit, it should have lasted longer than 8 years. I've had other over the range microwaves last forever. I'm glad to see that this design has been discontinued, but beware of any replacements for this unit, as the quality of these units are atrocious. If I could give this unit negative stars, I would.

Once I saw the technology, I made the purchase.

7/26/2015

The technology is great. I have not fully evaluated the features but will with time. Knowing I have the security of a maintenance plan and my past experience with Whirlpool appliances convinced me to try the convection microwave. I'm sure My family and I will enjoy using it. I recommend Whirlpool and am proud to support an American Company with made in the USA products.

dmrn27 4/8/2015

I loved this microwave/convection cook when I first saw it. It is visually stunning but unfortunately doe not perform. We had issues the first year we bought and every year since-we are on year five. We have spent hundreds in repairs over the last 5 years -mainly because of the initial investment and then regrettably we had our backsplash cut to fit around it! Terrible product-problems with moisture as others have stated getting in the door panel and causing the control panel to go out. Problems with the fan. Problems with it just quitting completely. Overpriced beautiful piece of junk!

Serves all needs!

Buckeye1969 7/21/2014

I chose this microwave for two reasons - 1) it had all the features I wanted and 2) it was the only one that fit the location of my microwave. (There is a wine rack beside the microwave that prevents a door that hinges at the end of the door from opening. This one has space at the end and the door will open). That being said - it is a great microwave. It is fast and even and the options are useful. The convection oven is as good as my regular convection oven. I am really happy with it.

Convention feature leaves me disappointed

Eddie69 6/25/2014

Although the glossy said cooks faster, not happy with browning capabilities and I don't feel it cooks as well as a standard oven. Additionally the thing is constantly beeping and ask for such things as change time, defrost, etc.. like it has a mind of it's own. At times it gets hung up and you can't enter cancel or whatever.

Love hate relationship with this product

MeR2D2 3/27/2014

Have had this unit for 4 years and it has worked well. Mostly use to boil water and make popcorn and also for microwave meals. The turntable handles a large rectangular lasagna tray, amazing. Only recently used the grill feature, worked well. The convection oven is very noisy and slow to heat and the preheat indicator never goes off, always says preheating. Don't recommend for allot of convection use. Recently the microwave feature failed to heat a cup of water, would only make it luke warm, and I decided to repair it myself as parts and labor would exceed the value of the unit. I did extensive troubleshooting research online and decided my best course of action was to replace the magnetron and the inverter (transformer) as these components were most frequently cited as failing. This was to no avail. Tested all the circuitry and had power to the inverter so it wasn't a switch or thermal fuse. Finally noticed one of the ferite "bullets" in the wave guide tunnel was slightly loose. Took it out and noticed it was corroded and eaten away. Ordered a new set of (3) ferite bullets and now the microwave is working great. The wave guide tunnel is the metal tunnel that directs the wave energy from the magnetron into the oven cavity and the bullets, from what I understand, tune the waves to concentrate them better into the oven cavity. It seems like many service techs miss this as a possible cause of failure. Also heard if the wave guide (not the wave guide cover) gets too damaged the oven is unrepairable. Hope this helps someone having problems with one of these units.

Fabulous...but...

cmiller5nd 11/7/2013

This is the best microwave I have ever had except for two things:1. The handle is brittle plastic and broke with normal open and closing. Whirlpool sent me a new one and it is easy to replace - just worried that it will break again.2. The microwave is above our stove and when we boil a pot of water, even with the fan on, the touch pad goes 'haywire' - it seems to think we want to re-heat a cup of coffee according to the read-out. Annoying, but not damaging.Overall, I would recommend - great look and a huge amount of space given the form factor.

We wanted a microwave range hood replacement...

Steve62 11/3/2013

...we got a third oven! This microwave does it all. It cooks like a microwave or you can use it as a convection oven. The pre-programmed cooking by type, method, food, etc. is a great feature. I use it exclusively for cooking bacon now and clean-up is a breeze. Steaming vegetables is a pleasure and it's quick! The only thing I wish it had, and maybe it does and I don't know it, is the ability to program additional foods.

An expensive piece of junk. Do not buy this microwave.

remi1853 10/3/2013

It looks good and is powerful but has many cheap plastic parts that keep breaking, cost a fortune and are very difficult to replace. In fact when we replaced one piece of trim that cracked (for no apparent reason) another one cracked in spite of the fact that we're very handy, have the right tools and were very careful when removing the broken piece. The light bulb replacement is ridiculously complicated and now the handle broke (another piece of cheap plastic#...there go another $45 #$78 on the whirlpool site...# and from what I see it's not going to be easy #again!) to replace it. DO NOT BE TEMPTED BY THE GOOD LOOKS OF THIS MICROWAVE it's not worth the money.

Poorly built PLASTIC componets

realesate 4/22/2013

This product is very poorly built. The bottom of the door of the unit is plastic and IF you cook at all it will crack from the heat from the stove below the unit. The steam or heat will get in through the cracked plastic and go in between the glass front and get into the electrical panel. The electrical panel will get condensation and not work and you will have to replace the electrical panel or buy a whole new unit. I do have a direct vent to the outside and use the fan on the unit. Other companies use steel on the bottom and do not have this issue. The plastic on the bottom of the door will crack and you will have an issue eventually.

Poor quality

Not worth over $1000. Door fogged up right after installation. After 2 years the heating elements for the microwave and convection oven just quit working.

This product is defective

GlendaH 12/4/2012

We have had the same problems as another reviewer. This microwave is above the stove and will not tolerate any cooking on the stove at all. It starts going through all types of cycles randomly, beeps in the middle of the night, and locks up so you cannot do anything with it. We have had this microwave replaced 3 times in the last year. Please correct the problem.

Problems with this product

Patrick7 11/7/2012

I purchased this item a couple years ago thinking that it was a superior product. However, problems started right away. This product does not function very well when installed over an oven, which is how it was designed to be used. Seems that steam or heat from the oven can enter the electronics within the microwave and cause problems. Now the microwave will run through programs on its own and continue "beeping" at all hours of the day and night. It sometimes locks up and will not respond to touch controls. I am concerned that the maker will not stand behind their products integrity.

Not recommended

tammye 7/12/2012

Purchased this microwave in 2006 and at first I loved it, then about a year later the glass started to fog up and the plastic strips around the door cracked. I had an extended warranty on the product and the door was replaced. A couple years later it happened again and they ended up replacing the whole microwave. Well, it has happened again and the extended warranty has expired so I am stuck with a microwave that has cracks in the plastic and fogged glass. For the price I paid for this microwave, I should not have the same problem over and over again. I do not recommend this product
