CEE Tier III Qualified Based on the Consortium for Energy Efficiency qualified product listings--with Tier III being the most efficient. This model features advanced water & energy savings and may qualify for rebates from local utility companies.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Meets government standards to help conserve natural resources and save money on utility bills.

EcoBoost Option Get additional energy efficiency without giving up cleaning performance. This option lowers water temperature and increases the tumbling action to use less energy while still delivering great cleaning and gentle performance.

TumbleFresh Option Activates after the load is finished and tumbles clothes periodically to help prevent wrinkles from setting in. Clothes stay fresh without having transfer them to the dryer immediately.

Quiet Spin Technology Reduces noise and vibration by minimizing movement of the wash drum during spin cycles making installation on an upper floor possible.

Cold Wash Cycle This eco-efficient cold water cycle cleans as well as a warm water wash. An initial wash phase at the beginning of the cycle uses a high detergent concentration to remove tough stains including grass, blueberry juice, red wine. This cycle uses less energy because there is no need to heat the water or maintain the temperature during the cycle.

Active Wear Cycle Clean small loads of active wear such as biking shorts, tank tops, running tights and other performance clothing. This cycle combines low-speed tumbling and medium-speed spin for gentle fabric care.

3.5 cu. ft. Stainless Steel Wash Basket Wash up to 16 pairs of jeans in a single load. You can clean larger, fewer loads to help save time and energy. Or take advantage of the ample space to wash bulky items like comforters, sleeping bags or dog beds.

LED Display Provides easy selection for all options, displays time remaining and status for the cycle.

Clean Washer Cycle with Affresh® Use this cycle once a month with Affresh® washer cleaner, to eliminate odor-causing soap residue and mildew that can build up as a result of regular everyday washing. This cycle uses a higher water level and hot water to remove buildup.

Care Control Temperature Management Adjusts the cold and hot water inlets to reach temperatures that are warm enough to dissolve detergents. Water is kept from overheating to help reduce shrinking and/or color bleeding.

Whitest Whites Cycle Raises water tempeatures and releases bleach or an oxygen-based cleaner at the optimal moment to enhance whitening performance.

Small Load Cycle Clean small, lightly soiled loads in less time. Plus, increased spin speeds extract more water for faster dry times.

Delicate Cycle A reduced agitation speed and low spin speed provide needed fabric care without sacrificing cleaning performance.

Delay Wash (up to 10 hours) Sets the washer to begin cleaning up to 10 hours later, during off-peak hours when utility rates may be lower, or when unloading the washer is more convenient.

Quiet Wash Noise Reduction System Keep operational sounds inside the washer and out of living areas with sound-absorbing materials around the wash basket.

Stainless Steel Wash Basket Resists odors, rust and chipping. The smooth surface helps protect delicate fabrics from snagging.

Add-A-Garment Indicator Light Illuminates for the first 8 minutes of the wash cycle as a convenient reminder that forgotten items can still be added to the load in progress.

Automatic Dispenser System Holds and releases each additive at the appropriate time to eliminate the need for return trips while enhancing cleaning and whitening performance.

Broken button and it would cost $430 for the part.

Alduane 6/20/2019

We bought this washer in 2013 and have had the serviceman out several times. This last time was the worst. Start/Pause button broke its tiny little plastic rod off and wouldn't start. The button is removable but not available for purchase. I would have to replace the entire control panel at $430 for just the part. I'm using a small dowel rod to start the machine until I decide to buy something new in another brand.

Never again Whirlpool!

Jonny B 3/18/2019

I am on my 3rd Whirlpool washing machine in 10 years and this unit is awful. Invested more in this last one to get less. I have had to have several service repairs and the wiring not properly designed and tends to short-out. Whirlpool will not make claim that it's a faulty design but the service techs tell me it is. Now again after the first repair along with the drum now going out as well. LAST Whirlpool for our home....ever!

Leaked water from the bottom since we purchased it

Polka Dots 27 1/21/2019

Yep. Leaked water from the undercarriage since we purchased it in 2012. Had someone out to repair MULTIPLE times, and still it leaks. 7 years later, stuff is beginning to fall off. The feet on the bottom are stuck and I can't find a wrench narrow enough to adjust it. The mother board is beginning to fail, and we need to buy something else soon. Will it be whirlpool? NOPE!

Another one with error code F3E2

ddonut 1/1/2019

Well, ours only made it to barely 5 years. That's 5 years with only 2 (senior) adults in the home and away from home on average 6 weeks a year. Then the front door locked up when we tried to use it. Error code F3E2 was displayed and our repairman said that could indicate a problem with the control board, the motor board, or the wiring in between. He told us if we have to replace the control board it will cost (Canadian) about $325 for the part alone. And if that doesn't work, we might have to replace the motor board (even more expensive), but Whirlpool will not accept a return on the first board.... so then we will be out (Cdn.)$700 + labor. Wonderful. A big gamble to try and repair a 5-year old washer and possibly spend as much as buying a new one. If we buy a new one, we'll have to modify our laundry room to fit the new taller units, too. And it won't be a Whirlpool with this kind of reliability.

It's a Nightmare

MamaMimi 7/26/2018

Our Duet front load washer (with a 5-year extended warranty) suddenly stopped working after 6 1/2 years of gentle, 2-person household use. Error Code F3E2 flashed. Unfortunately, this happened mid-wash cycle and the door would not unlock to remove the clothes. Two local appliance repair companies and Whirlpool Customer Service were clueless as to why the door would not unlock, so we were unable to even get the Model Number from inside the door. Our trusted handyman searched on YouTube and learned how to manually release the door by removing the front panel below the door and pulling a loop deep inside the below the drum; however, the error code persisted. Once he had the Model Number, he searched YouTube again and learned that the likely problem was a broken temperature sensor wire--the black one inside the back of the machine. The YouTube video stated that the black wire is too short on these machines, so vibration over time causes it to snap. The handyman spliced the wire, and we were back in business. This was not without a lot of stress though, as I had already ordered another washer which would have required us to remove the countertop over our washer/dryer. The 36" high 3.5 cf washer is no longer made (or any other 36" high frontloader). It was a nightmare for about a week, but the problem is resolved for now. FYI, there is service manual rolled up and taped inside the front panel below the door which gives extensive, detailed troubleshooting and repair information. It would have been nice to know that. The consumer owner's manual gives no helpful information. I hope this helps someone with a similar issue in the future.

MMC85 6/7/2018

We bought this washer 6 years ago, and we have had to repair it at least 4 times in the last 2 years. Now, we are getting the dreaded banging sound during the spin cycle and dark grease spots are appearing on our clothes. From what I understand, it's going to cost $400 for the part to fix it, so basically we just need to replace it. These machines are poorly built and should last much longer than 4-6 years.

The washer came brand new with my home 6 years ago. It is the first washer I have owned so I do not know how long washers are supposed to last. So far I have spent about $400 in repairs. I have other whirlpool appliances that have broken down as well. please do not buy whirlpool.

Don't waste your money...

HHodges1010 2/16/2018

We bought this washer 6 years ago. Maybe that's how long these washers are good for now a days. My husband and I have invested way too much money to try and fix this thing. By the time you continue to waste away money trying to repair it, you could've already bought 5 old school washers that will last you so much longer. These front loaders need so much more maintenance and I would not recommend this one to my worse enemy...STAY AWAY!!! Buy an old school washer...buy the cheapest one you can find at Lowes...I promise you it will last so much longer.

Washer does not have longevity!!!

Jane-O 2/9/2018

We bought this washer and dryer set 6 years ago. It worked fantastic, until about the 5 year and 6 month mark (5 yr warranty). The drum went in the dryer and sounded like a plane was taking off. We got a repair company in and were told that the part would cost $400 plus labour. What?!?!?! So it's basically a throw away. It makes me sick to think this will go to the land fill!! How can things be made so poorly now that they have a 5 year life span... pitiful!!!

I got this washer, and from the first day it is not working properly. It is always soap left after wash in the machine, and I am only putting 1 tb spoon of detergent for a large load and always running few extra rinse cycles.Several professional repairman look at it, and did nothing. Basically I got this: "this is bad designeed machine and nothing can be done about it".

Finished with Whirlpool

8/18/2016

This washer lasted me 3 1/2 years. The tech said it would cost $600 to fix it. Needs new basket, rear and front drum, new belt, motor is going also. The rubber around the door is disgusting and the door gets all scummy I guess from the soap. It's really awful that a washing machine needs to be cleaned so often. My next machine will be a top loader. This was my second duet in 11 years! Never will I buy Whirlpool again.

This washer is incredible!!! Having used an agitator for years I was a little skeptical about this new form of washing machine. I was amazed and swear that my clothes are coming out whiter and cleaner than ever before. The various options (i.e. small load, delicate, heavy duty, etc.) makes for an easier selection when deciding.

Beware of Model WFW9151YW Duet Washer

11/20/2015

We spent $971.+ on 7/11/2012, and replaced it on 11/11/2015 with a boot torn in 3 places, and in need of a new inner basket and outer tub with bearings. Parts alone exceeded $600 without labor. We are a senior couple with minimal to average laundry needs, we took care of the machine, and followed directions. We did not have the extended warranty. The performance was just fair, even when brand new. It is unacceptable for such a machine to fail in just over four years. The other issues are common to front loaders: even with regular cleaning, as recommended in the manual, and leaving the washer door open when not in use, the odor and the build-up were disgusting, even with a water softener. No matter how good a Black Friday deal, beware of this model, and be careful of Whirlpool.

We have the Washer Dryer set at our cabin in the northwoods of Michigan. So glad we went this route. Powerful performance in a compact size for a small space. The quiet, effective consistency is something we've come to rely on as a given. We'll investigate other Whirlpool appliances after our great experience with these.

Stay Away

Bunter 8/5/2015

My Second whirlpool washer in the last 13 years. The first lasted 9 years of large use during which I only had to replace the water valves a couple of times, until the tub bearing locked up. Because I had good use, I chose to replace the unit with another Whirlpool. Bad choice. After 2 years the drum seal broke and then a month later the water valve failed and now the control card blew up. All within three years of purchase. Not worth the money.

Poor Design and Awful Product

Buyer Beware 8/5/2015

This was a gift for my son and daughter-in-law. Nothing but problems in the 3 years of use. Poor design on water drainage. Have had to service the washer 4 times because of poor design that does not allow water to drain if there is so much as a spec of fuzz in the drain area. Also, due to the way the door and the tub fit is designed, small pieces of clothing such as t-shirt ends, child pajama pants, bib ends, etc. get caught in the edge between the drum and the door. When this happens, the fabric is twisted and torn. Poor, poor design. Will never buy another Whirlpool product as long as I live. Too bad, a great product years ago has turned into junk.

AngryAl 3/16/2015

We purchased this washer exactly one year ago last month. Small items (baby socks, cloths etc) alsways get stuck in the gap of the liner between the tub and the glass. As a result, when the washer is on spin cycle the liner rubs with the clothing! This has resulted in ruined clothes and now we have to purchase and pay for a new liner as the washer is just over the warranty period. I HATE this washer.

I bought this unit 3 years ago for my rental property because I had a previous version that lasted 8 years and wanted something that woul dnot give me any hassle. This unit has been run with light loads maybe 150 to 200 times in the three years and now its busted and required $550 in repairs. What kind of product is this? 0 quality rating if I could rate it that low. Never buying whirlpool again, too bad too bc I am about to buy a new set for my new home.

dtjkwilk 8/14/2014

We received this washer several months ago and have been very pleased. It does not bounce across the room like other machines. It is also very easy to select the type of washing you want to do, real easy to operate. With it direct drive technology it is smooth and quieter than any other washer we have had. I strongly recommend this product. I usually don't write reviews but this one deserves my time.

4/14/2014

As a paraplegic, fighting to get the clothes out of the washer is a thing of the past. This washer has all the features I need, and more. It doesn't vibrate like most other front load washers, never get's that sour smell, and gets my clothes cleaner than ever. Even my sweaters and gentle clothing are never out of shape when I pull them from the washer. One of the features I really like on this washer is the EcoBoost. The Tumble Fresh is a great feature when you know you won't be able to get your clothes out of the washer right away. I've used the Delay Start on several occasions so when laundry needs to be done, but so do errands I can do both and not worry about my clothes getting moldy. If you are looking for a front load washer, I would recommend this one. I love it, and you would too!

Great washer - just one BIG issue.

AllyMax 4/7/2014

I love my washer! I do wish I would have gotten the larger size, but that's my own fault. The one issue that I continually have with every load though.... it eats socks and undies. Every load leaves at least 1-4 items caught up in the rubber stripping along the door. It's extremely frustrating because I have to rewash those items and my socks get all mixed up.I think some more thought into the design of the door and the rubber stripping could resolve this issue. Thanks!Allyson Maxey

As a couple nearing retirement, we wanted a washing machine

Nelsongs 3/27/2014

We love our new washer and dryer. First of all, they are beautifully designed. In remodeling our 1970's home, we decided we wanted our laundry area more accessible, meaning no longer in the basement. It is now on our main floor, with our new washer and dryer neatly stacked in a nook created for them. While our builders contemplated building special doors to hide them, we decided they looked so nice that we had no desire to do so.We also like the fact that the washer uses water efficiently. This was very important to us, both for consevation of water and of electricity for heating it.One of the most impressive aspects of the new washer is how very quiet it is. I am a composer, so I am sensitive to noise in a space. Our Whirlpool washer emits very little noise throughout its entire cycle. It just sounds well made!

Really Happy with Washer

Lake80 3/27/2014

We love our new washing machine. It is a little bit noisier than I thought it would be but certainly not too noisy and much quieter than our last washer. Our clothes come out quite clean and there is a nice variety of cycles to choose from. The only part that I don't like it that our toddlers socks get stuck in the rubber gasket at the front of the washer near the door and get caught up with bits of dog hair, etc that don't must be filtering through there. So when we unload them we need to give them a rinse and squeeze them out before we put them in the washer. I wish there wasn't a tiny sock trap! Otherwise this is an excellent product.

Machine rebuilt twice and now on third service

Qtip25 3/12/2014

I have had to have this machine rebuilt because of a bad drum that ripped up my clothes. The second time the drum broke off of the "arm" that holds it to the back of the washing machine and now it has a bad sensor. The worst part is I can't get the wet clothes out until the service person comes because of the automatic locking door. I guess I'll have some moldy clothes to look forward to replacing. This has been the worst purchase I've ever made. The best purchase is the extended warranty. I've saved at least $2000 in repair costs because of the warranty. What a pain!

wouldn't get again

JLac 12/28/2013

I have had this washer only a year and had to have it serviced already. Would not recommend it. A washer should not break or rip clothes less than year old.

this product worth considering

Bob1969 12/24/2013

Was pleasantly surprised ,it far surpassed my expectations for a small and pretty much entry level washer ,as I stated definitely worth considering

Good Value for under $500

TECHFRANZ 11/30/2013

We purchased this washer because it was on clearance. It has performed well, although we do at time worry about it's durability. So far after using it for three months it has held up well.My wife does think the wash cycles are very long, often an hour or longer.

Poor rinse

BarbaraD 11/17/2013

I did notice a marked decrease in our water usage. But I had to add rinse cycles in order to get the detergent rinsed out. I found that if I wash my whites and towels on the "allergen" cycle it uses more water to rinse. (You can wash in a little soapy water but you need lots of water to rinse completely)

This machine barely lasted before the warranty ran out

Barbie123 11/16/2013

The motor on my duet went bad just before the warranty went out .From the repair guy reaction was that he was surprised I made it before it would cost me to fix it.They are asking me for$109 per year for an extended warranty and I believe that it would be a waste of money for the product should last more than a year before fixing it. I live alone and there is no reason why it should have broken down as soon as it did.It would have cost me $368 to fix it if it broke down after September instead of July.Im highly dissapointed in this machine.

Whisper quiet wash...

ChristiGrace 11/10/2013

This washer has a lot of great features, versatile settings, low water use, Tumble Fresh setting etc. But one thing I really love about this machine is how quiet it is. Our laundry room is right off the kitchen and I appreciate that I can barely hear this machine when it is in full swing! Our water bill shows we are using less water but the clothes appear just as clean. My husband balked at the price of the Duet set,and quite honestly had I not stumbled on a special deal on floor models- I probably wouldn't have them! That said- I love all the features and the quietness of them. I did find the settings confusing at first, but got used to them fairly quickly. I have had the machine for over 6 mos. now and have not ,as of yet had any issues with odors. I keep the seal clean, and door open for awhile after each use, and run a cycle with the recommended cleaner at the suggested intervals.. All in all a great product.

This is the BEST washer I've ever used - highly recommend

11/10/2013

My wife and I LOVE this washer - it's simple to use and almost knows what you want to do before you start. Our FAVORITE feature is the onboard storage of the laundry detergent; not having to add it every time you do wash is great - just fill the reservoir on occasion (when it warns it's getting low) and you're all set.

Many Cycle Options

11/10/2013

This product has all the right features-- the basics for those who don't have unique drying needs, and many cycle options for others. It's also very simple to modify the cycle settings. We particularly appreciate the "smart" features, such that it recognizes when the load has finished drying and ends the cycle-- saving lots of energy and money in the process!

Best investment yet!

taurussmiley 11/10/2013

In a house with 5 teenagers, this has been the best appliance purchase we have made. Our utility bills went down 20%. Sports uniforms and work uniforms come out clean the first time. There is no more doing a load of just 4 towels, we can do at least 8 plus wash clothes. Its wonderful. Even the kids enjoy using it. Our bedroom is right beside the laundry room and we cannot even hear it running.

My 2nd Whirlpool Duet Set!

DuetDude 11/8/2013

I had my original Duet set for about 8 years, never had a problem with them till the dryer motor gave out. Rather than have it fixed I gave them away and purchased my new Duet set and love these ones even more! It has all the wash cycles I need, love the Allergen Cycle and the Eco Boost option. Soooo much quieter than my last set, which I never thought were loud! Hopefully these ones will last as long as my old ones!
